In Ireland it is estimated that over 55,000 people have dementia and half a million of us live in families that have been affected by the disease.

 These numbers are expected to double in the next 20 years and treble in the next 35.

 The effects of the disease are profound and heartbreaking but this week, as part of our Live Longer/Live Better series we highlight some of the proven ways – including diet and exercise – to avoid dementia
